Ultramarine Blue ($Na_{6-8}Al_6Si_6O_{24}S_{2-4}$) is a synthetic inorganic pigment chemically characterized as a complex sulfur-containing socio-alumino-silicate. Historically derived from the semi-precious stone Lapis Lazuli, modern industrial Ultramarine is produced by heating kaolin, sodium carbonate, sulfur, and charcoal in a kiln. It is renowned for its unique, vibrant reddish-blue shade that cannot be perfectly replicated by organic phthalocyanine blues.
