Historically derived from the semi-precious stone Lapis Lazuli, modern industrial Ultramarine is produced by heating kaolin, sodium carbonate, sulfur, and charcoal in a kiln. It is renowned for its unique, vibrant reddish-blue shade that cannot be perfectly replicated by organic phthalocyanine blues.
